About the work

Book Bowls: Dwellings

This series of ceramic works revisits small-scale object making in the form of Book Bowls: hand built earthenware and porcelain sculptural forms in the shape of bowls and inscribed with handwritten text.

For Book Bowls: Dwellings, I was inspired by the essay of the same name by poet and novelist Linda Hogan. She recounts private moments when she encountered living places, where various creatures’ lives, including humans, intertwine in fascinating ways. Some of her words are inscribed into the surface of the bowls, each one telling a portion of the story and patterning the way that each of us adds to the story of the places we inhabit.

About the show

Role Models

A collaborative exhibition with Florida CraftArt, this exhibition explores the relationship between mentors and mentees in the ceramics world. 17 Florida-based artists were asked to select someone who inspired them, and someone they inspire.

I wish to thank my mentor and friend, Holly Hanessian, for inviting me to be a part of this exhibition.
